Fort Benning’s SKIESUnlimited Dance Force Program invites the
public to a free recital of “Viva Las Vegas” at the Sand Hill Rec
Center on May 10 at 2:30 p.m. SKIESUnlimited offers instructional
programs and classes designed to complement and support the

The second of three Army 10-Miler time trials takes place on
May 16 at the Santiago Fitness Center. Only active duty, activated
reservists and activated National Guard Soldiers are eligible to
compete for positions. Registration is onsite at 6:30 a.m. and the
race starts at 7. There is no fee to enter. Qualifiers will
represent the Fort Benning team in the Washington, DC, Army 10-Miler

Outdoor Recreation is holding a free On Post Community Campout
on May 17 and 18 at Kings Pond. Outdoor Recreation will provide free
canoes, paddleboats, volleyball, croquet, horseshoes and other items
for all campers. Enjoy storytelling around the campfire with Fort
Benning librarians, fly fishing demonstrations by ‘Fly Fishing for
Vets’ and star gazing with the Coca Cola Space Science Center
astronomers. The campout is free, but registration is required by

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is holding a free
pre-Memorial Day basketball tournament on May 21 at the Smith
Fitness Center. The competition includes a 3-on-3 tournament and
3-point shootout, 3-person basketball teams with single elimination
and a 3-point shootout. Prizes will be awarded for first place and
free food will be available. Participation for certain competitions
is limited. Open registration will be held May 10 through 18 at the
Smith Fitness Center and the Kelley Hill Rec Center. The coaches

We don’t want you to drink and drive during the Memorial Day

May 23 to 28 between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., military
ID-card holders in the Fort Benning, Columbus and Phenix City area
can get a free ride home sponsored by TIC Federal Credit Union, Fort

Instead of lying around the house this summer, send your kids to
Camp Courage where they will enjoy lots of educational and
recreational activities in a safe environment. Skating, bowling,
swimming, trips to the Atlanta Zoo and Six Flags, plus many more
activities are planned. Open to kindergartners through fifth
graders, the camp will operate from June 2 to August, from 5:30 a.m.
to 6:30 p.m. Children can attend on a daily or weekly basis. CYS
registration is free but space is limited. Camp fees are based upon

The CYS Middle School and Teen Center is offering two free
apprenticeship programs for teenagers to explore potential
career paths through hands on career-specific learning this summer.
The programs will run every Monday through Friday from June 2 to
July 25. Theater/Arts and Hip Hop is offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and
Music DJ Entrepreneurship is taught from 1 to 2 p.m. For

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers has 30 vacancies available
for their trip to the Wild Adventure Amusement Park in
Valdosta, Ga., on June 13. Reservations are available on a
first-come, first-served basis by signing up at the Kelley Hill Rec

Register now for a free Personal Watercraft and Boater Safety
Course on June 14. Information on legal requirements, navigation
rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents and new
boating laws will be covered by instructors of the US Coast Guard
Auxiliary Flotilla 81. Participants receive a Boater Safety Book and
a certificate from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Boat
inspections will be held in the parking lot of Bldg. 4 following
class instruction. The class is limited to 24 participants and

Fans of the American Girl doll and book collections will be
getting together at the Sayers Memorial Library from May 1 through
June 30. On July 2, the latest American Girl doll, Kitt Kittredge
will premiere in movie theaters and toy stores. Authorized Army

Every month the Army Community Services Relocation Readiness Program
holds a Newcomers Orientation and Bus Tour for Soldiers,
Families and Civilians new to the Fort Benning and Columbus, Ga.,
area. The next orientation will be on May 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This free program begins with a light breakfast at the Benning Club
and includes a bus tour of Fort Benning and uptown Columbus. Lunch

Outdoor Recreation is holding an overnight whitewater rafting
adventure on the Ocoee River in Tennessee on May 9 and 10. The
$135 fee includes round-trip transportation, lodging, lunch on May
10 and all whitewater rafting equipment. Minimum age of
participation is 12 years old. This 6-hour trip includes some of the
finest whitewater in the United States and includes a section of the
1996 Olympic rapids course. Participants should bring extra
non-cotton clothing, footgear, towels, sunscreen, sun glasses,
sleeping bag and pillow, flashlight and insect repellant. Payment

Outdoor Recreation offers a 5-hour self-guided float trip down
the Chattahoochee River almost every Saturday for $15 per
person. The price includes a canoe or kayak rental, PFD’s, paddles,
and transportation to and from the Outdoor Recreation Headquarters.
Reservations are required by noon on the Thursday prior to the trip
and waivers must be returned by noon the day before the float. A
minimum of eight people are required for each river excursion. The
